Religion & Revolution in Russia
Organized by RSW post-doctoral scholar Francesca Silano, the conference "Religion & Revolution in Russia" took place June 12-13, 2018 This interdisciplinary symposium investigated the historical, theological, and political implications of religion and revolution in Russia. Some speakers presented papers on the interplay between various religions and the revolutions of 1917 while others considered the impact of the "second Russian Revolution" (the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991) on religion. Finally, we will consider the role that religion plays—or does not play—in contemporary Russian social, political, and cultural life." This symposium extended the discussion begun at a previous international conference on religion in Russia.
