Seeing Like a State? A Conference on Education in Russia Past and Present

This conference brought together scholars from Russia, Sweden, Canada and the U.S. in order to embed new and comparative approaches to the study of Russian education past and present, focusing upon the notion of "path dependency" and examining the relationship between schools, society and the polity. This conference was organized in partnership with the Higher School of Economics in Moscow and the Education Institute, whose director, Isak Frumin plays a prominent role in all government sponsored research on education in Russia today. The selection of participants from Russia emphasized mid-career and younger scholars from outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg. October 14-15, 2017. The conference was organized by Ben Eklof and Tatiana Saburova.
