Campbell shares how his interest began in Russian and Siberian studies, and discusses his research that has spanned visual anthropology, sociology, and cultural history. They explore the interplay between photography and historiography, the role of photography in Campbell's research of indigenous peoples of Russia, how images open up or question what we are perceiving, and when he first realized the mattering and importance of the visual in his academic work.
