You are invited to a conversation with Myroslav Marynovych, author of The Universe Behind Barbed Wire: Memoirs of a Soviet Ukrainian Dissident (University of Rochester Press, 2021). Myroslav Marynovych served 10 years in the Gulag for his human rights advocacy – 7 years in Perm-36 and 3 more years in exile in Kazakhstan. He was a founding member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group (1976). In 1991, Myroslav Marynovych founded the first Amnesty International group in the USSR. Prof. Marynovych has lectured widely in the U.S., Canada, Israel, and Poland, and has won a number of honors for his human rights advocacy.
The event is organized by the UkrSO and supported by the Robert F. Byrnes Russian and East European Institute, the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures, and the Russian Studies Workshop.
