RSW visiting scholar Gertjan Plets will present a public lecture, "Exceptions to Authoritarianism: Cultural Heritage Politics and Corporate Statecraft in the Altai Republic." Gertjan Plets studies cultural heritage politics, and is assistant professor at Utrecht University, Netherlands. An anthropologist working in Altai Republic (Russia), Georgia, and Flanders, Plets is interested in cultural politics, diplomacy, bureaucracy and agency of technology. This talk would be of interest to those interested in cultural politics, anthropology, CEUS, Russia-China relations, indigenous peoples, gas pipelines, local identity, museums, heritage.
