-Dr. Claire Kaiser: "Expulsion and the Postwar Experience in the Caucasus." At the dawn of the Cold War, a series of operations took place in the Caucasus that expelled minority groups to Siberia and Central Asia. This talk will discuss these postwar expulsions from Georgia in a comparative framework in order to understand how a Soviet tool of imperial population management could just as much be an instrument of nation-building and national homogenization at the local level.
McKinney Visiting Artist Series: "AES+F"
-AES+F is an artist collective of four Russian artists: Tatiana Arzamasova (1955), Lev Evzovich (1958), Evgeny Svyatsky (1957), and Vladimir Fridkes (1956). Deploying a sophisticated, poetic dialogue among sculpture, painting, drawing and architecture, and plumbing the depths of art history and other cultural canons, AES+F’s grand visual narratives explore the values, vices and conflicts of contemporary culture in the global sphere.
