Mikhail Mal’tsev will speak about the Piotrovskii independent bookstore concern that he directs in the provincial Russian cities of Perm’ and Ekaterinburg. Unlike typical chain bookstores, Piotrovskii specializes in less commonly circulated non-fiction books. Named after Iuzef Piotrovskii, the founder of the first bookstore in Perm’, the Piotrovskii bookstores function as a resource for people who value quality literature and as a locus for public discussions and lectures on various topics. Since its establishment, Piotrovskii has sold over 100,000 books and organized numerous events of a cultural and educational nature, including international book fairs and a philosophy school.
