Kathleen Gergely is currently a second-year PhD student in the Political Science Department at Indiana University. She specializes in International Relations and Comparative Politics and plans to earn a PhD minor in Russian and East European Studies. Her research is focused on the South Caucasus, specifically on the international dimension of that region's frozen conflicts. She is interested in how regional and major powers use either leverage or political and economic linkages to influence the trajectory of these conflicts. She earned her MA in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018. Until starting her PhD, her research exclusively focused on center-periphery relations in the USSR and Russian Federation--primarily on relations between Moscow and the North Caucasus.
