Alex McGrath is a Russian Studies Workshop Ph.D. fellow in Linguistic Anthropology with a minor in Russian and Eastern European Studies. Alex's research interests include heritage language ideologies, language maintenance and revitalization efforts in Siberia, and the minority language speaker's relationship to the state in the post-socialist context. McGrath previously studied Yiddish-language classrooms in Warsaw, examining the role of language pedagogy in the ongoing negotiation of Jewish-Polish memory in Eastern Europe. Alex holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Linguistics from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
