Maria Fokina is a Ph.D. Candidate in Musicology at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, she holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Music and Latin from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her current research interests include women musicians in nineteenth-century and twentieth-century Russia, trauma and memory studies, and musical constructions of magic in opera and ballet. Outside of academic work, Maria enjoys playing with her charismatic cat Nino, collecting antiques, and inhabiting video game worlds.
