Madeline McCann is a recent graduate of Indiana University with an M.A. in Russian and East European Studies. Her research focuses on grassroots social movements and civic engagement, particularly in the Russian Federation and Southern Caucasus. Her M.A. thesis, chaired by Dr. Regina Smyth, explored the relationship between individual embeddedness in neighborhood networks and civic engagement in response to major political upheavals in Moscow in 2017-2018. Madeline served as a Russian Studies Graduate Fellow during her two years as a student at Indiana University, and her continued work with the Russian Studies Workshop centers around projects connected to the 2018 RSW conference on Urban Activism and the Development of Civil Society in the Russian Federation.
